Malone tells Billboard that when he started making the beat for the track, he had “always” had the melody in his head and he had been singing it over and over again, pointing out that it almost sounds like a nursery rhyme. Once he had that beat, producer Lou Bell “beefed it up and made it fucking awesome,” Malone adds.
“I usually bring all my ideas to him,” he says of Bell, “And then we just build on them together because he’s such a smart dude. He knows frequencies and shit that are pleasant to the ear, and he’s just the smartest person, musically and otherwise, that I know, and he kicks ass.”
It was at that point that Ty Dolla $ign came to the studio and after the two of them “fucked around” on the guitar for a bit, Malone played what he had of the song so far. “We had an open verse at that time and then he’d go in there and fuck around and he did and then it worked perfectly,” Malone states.
Speaking of the track’s meaning, Malone states, “There’s some lines where it’s super feelin’ yourself, and that’s what my music kind of is and kind of how I am…sometimes it’s fun to fuck around and get into trouble and shit, but at the end of the day, it all comes back around and that’s not fucking everything.”
“There’s a lot of shit that goes on,” he adds, “And you want to have a good time and you want to experience everything, but there’s always going to be bad people that want to do bad shit to ya.”
