Pink Sweat$ looks to carry his momentum as a burgeoning R&B newcomer by unleashing his heavily anticipated Volume 2 EP on Thursday (March 28) via the indie label Human Re-Sources. The tender project features five tracks in all, including the previously released “Coke & Henny Pt. 1” and “I Know.”
Zane Lowe caught up with the Philly native on Beats 1 earlier Thursday, and he explained the inspiration behind the “Coke & Henny” series.
“There is a flip side when you’re out meeting people when you’re drunk. When you meet people, it’s almost like you meet another person sometimes because you don’t really know who they are,” the 26-year-old began. “So you meet somebody at a club, dancing, having a good time. Then, you hang out with them one day, and you’re like, ‘Wait, this person’s kind of not like the fun person that they were for those three hours at the club.'”
Sweat$ further detailed that the luscious feature-free project is just to get fans’ palates ready for his full-length debut. “The production on it was table percussion. Me banging on the tables, handclaps, snaps, whatever,” he said. “With that song and with a couple of songs on the project, it’s trying to sonically get people ready for the full-length album.”
In support of Vol. 2, Pink Sweat$ will headline a pair of sold-out shows in Los Angeles (April 3 and April 4) and fly across the country to take over NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on April 8.
