A former West Point cadet has lost his multimillion-dollar lawsuit against staff members for R&B singer Patti LaBelle over a beating received while waiting outside a Houston airport terminal for a ride home.
The federal jury in Houston returned its verdict Tuesday night after 10 hours of deliberation. LaBelle had been dropped from the suit early in the trial.
In his lawsuit, Richard King alleges he was attacked without provocation by LaBelle’s bodyguard and two others while waiting outside Bush Intercontinental Airport in 2011. His attorney had said King suffered a brain injury that him King to withdraw from the U.S. Military Academy.
LaBelle’s attorneys argued that King threw the first punch.
