It’s been a year of highs and lows for PartyNextDoor, inspiring somber tones on his new album P3.
As the OVO artist details in a new interview with Rolling Stone, the successes included penning one of the world’s biggest tracks — Rihanna‘s “Work” — while his own personal relationships may not have gone so well. Most notably, this seems to include his rumored romance with Kehlani.
“It was a blue year for me,” PND said. “I thought, ‘Write a hit, you’ll be rich and happy.’ Meet one of the most beautiful girls in the world, one of the most talented and I’ll be happy. All of that: I’m not happy.”
Last year a rumored relationship with singer Kehlani ended, which led PND to release a song named after her (he later changed the title).
Then, earlier this year, the drama hit a high note when he posted a picture suggesting the two of them had reconciled. This sparked a frenzy online of accusations that Kehlani had cheated on her then-boyfriend NBA player Kyrie Irving. The following day, Kehlani posted a grim picture of herself in the hospital with an IV in her arm, captioning, “Today I wanted to leave this earth.”
“I regret how it went down,” PND said. “Big time I regret how it went down. I look into people’s eyes and I know they think I’m a bad guy. There’s a lot of details that people don’t know.
“I just hope people understand that was a year for him,” he went on, switching to the third person. “And I hope everyone has a successful year and I hope that’s in the past.”
