Party Supplies and Action Bronson follow up their collaboration on the acclaimed Blue Chips mixtapes, with their new song, “The Light In the Addict.” Their labelmate Black Atlass joins to contribute the smoothest of hooks.

The track coheres around a loose, improvisational-sounding piano groove, showing a close connection between rap and the blues. Bronson opens in a depressed mood, “Sittin’ first class feeling like shit though/ Staring at the window with the mind of a schizo.” Black Atlass, from Montreal, contributes a sticky hook: “I nearly lost my mind, all a motherf—er got is time, time, time.” The word “motherf—er” hasn’t been sung so sweetly since D’Angelo‘s 1995 track “Shit, Damn, Motherf—er.”
Party Supplies sums up the track’s theme as “nothing is perfect.” “It’s the sound of hope and survival and the crossroads of good and bad,” he tells Billboard. The track closes with vocals that sound like scat-singing, which reminds the producer of Van Morrison‘s “Moondance.”
“The solo’s are tasteful… I got inspired to due those extra high pitched vocals towards the end and now it reminds us of Van Morrison’s ‘Moondance’,” he says.
The last release from Party Supplies and Bronson, Blue Chips 2, came out in November of 2013. The label Fools Gold is releasing Party Supplies’ debut album, Tough Love, on November 25th.
