Njomza takes a vacation of sorts in the new video for her single “Lonely Nights,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Nov. 9).
In the visual, Njomza is seen sitting in her living room, when suddenly the power goes out, and the room is transformed into a tropical, romantic destination seen on her television. Indeed, fantasy and reality intertwine as Njomza escapes her mundane daily routine.
The video is directed by Chad Tennies, known for his work on music videos like Migos’ “Bad & Boujee.”
“I had a vision for the ‘Lonely Nights’ video and Chad helped amplify that vision,” Njomza tells Billboard. “I was playing with the concept of ‘vacation’ and how a vacation can be anywhere or anything. I can take vacation in my mind all from the comfort of my couch.”
With the release of “Lonely Nights” — a single off of Njomza’s new EP Vacation, which was also released today — Njomza sets the tone of romanticized escapism that can be heard throughout Vacation. “The video really introduces that concept, which is a theme throughout the EP,” the SinceThe80s/Motown signee says. “It’s the beginning of the visual story.”
The Chicago native was first discovered by the late Mac Miller, catching his eye with her raspy, powerful voice, and signed to his Remember Music label. Njomza even appeared on Miller’s 2016 album, The Divine Feminine, before releasing her own debut EP Sad for You in 2017.
