It’s officially been seven years since Nipsey Hussle doled out his mixtape The Marathon. With the year coming to a close, the West Coast rhymer is taking a moment to reflect on his 2010 project with the release of his new song, “Been Down” featuring Swizz Beatz, ahead of his upcoming album Victory Lap.
“7 years ago Today THE MARATHON was released. It’s been a long time coming but we did it OUR WAY,” Hussle wrote in a post announcing his new song, which he says chronicles the creative process behind the mixtape.
The song won’t land on Hussle’s forthcoming project Victory Lap, slated for release on Feb. 16 during the 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend. The rapper recently unleashed “Rap N—as” and shared a message to fans thanking them for their patience and support.
“You’ve come a long way with us on this journey. Through our ups and downs, you’ve stayed dedicated to us, our brand, and our vision. I want to say thank you,” he wrote in a letter. “Without your belief, we would not have gone this far.”
