Nile Rodgers and Chic are set to headline the Apollo Theater’s 2015 Spring Gala on June 8. The 10th annual benefit concert will also feature performances by Ne-Yo, Rosanne Cash, Luke James, recent The Voice contestant Kimberly Nichole and South African a cappella trio The Soil.
In addition, two special awards will be presented at the gala. In recognition of its outstanding philanthropy and community leadership, the Madison Square Garden Company will receive the Corporate Award, represented by MSG executive chairman James Dolan. On behalf of the Ford Foundation, its president Darren Walker will accept the Percy C. Sutton Civic Leadership Award in honor of the organization’s years of service to the Apollo.
Proceeds from the Spring Gala will support the legendary Harlem, New York venue’s year-round artistic, educational and community programming. Last year’s benefit concert raised $2.3 million. Previous headliners include Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Eddie Levert and Valerie Simpson.
“Many people don’t realize that the Apollo is a nonprofit organization,” says Jonelle Procope, president/CEO of the Apollo Theater. “And we can only fully realize our mission with the support of our community. The evening also affords us the opportunity to say thank you. In classic Apollo fashion, it’s always a ton of fun and showcases musical artists with connections to our legacy and our contemporary programs.”
