Pound the alarm! Nicki Minaj shocked fans on Thursday (Sept. 5) with an abrupt tweet saying she would be retiring from music to get a head start on her family life with partner Kenneth “Zoo” Petty. The retirement tweet has since been deleted. With the Barbz ailing, Minaj later apologized for not taking her fans’ feelings into account when initially breaking the news.
“I’m still right here,” the Young Money rapper replied to one fan on Twitter. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”
Since rappers rarely ever actually retire, many in the hip-hop community were skeptical of Nicki’s announcement, while others were heartbroken over Minaj stepping away from music and hanging up her mic. TMZ reports that the Queens native had made studio plans to record with artists in the coming days. The 36-year-old had told The Joe Budden Podcast that she was also working on her fifth album.
Fans should get some sort of closure from an upcoming episode of Queen Radio.
