Nicki Minaj may be in album mode, but the Queens rapstress found time to call into DJ Whoo Kid’s Whoolywood Shuffle on SiriuxXM’s Shade 45 for a quick catch-up.
In a snippet from the interview, Minaj reflected on reuniting with Lil Wayne and Drake at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. “Wayne is so proud of his artists, as he should be; he’s proud of Young Money. Even when he takes a little break, that name is still out here being repped,” she said. “Mostly every feature I do, I make sure and say Young Money because it’s still the movement, and the fans still love that.”
She also recalled holding both of their hands while sitting in between them at the BBMAs and saying, “I missed you guys.” Then when she moved to Miami on the low, Drake got word from Young Money president Mack Maine and flew in immediately.
“It was just another great feeling, another dope moment, because we feed off each other no matter how big Drake has gotten, no matter how much of a legend Wayne is, it’s amazing that when we all get together, we still feed off of each other and we’re still so proud of each other.” She also said that Drake winning 13 awards inspired her.
Minaj, known for her baller-centric rhymes, also weighed in on the NBA Finals but didn’t co-sign one team. She gave props to both Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry. “May the best team win, may the best man win,” she said. “I just love that it’s good competition.”
Another highlight was Minaj pondering what’s left to do in her career. Plain and simple, she offered, “Win more and win big — that’s what I’m gonna do.” She also said that she can’t wait to see her fans react to her upcoming fourth album, adding, “I know it’s going to be my best body of work … That’s next on my bucket list — to deliver my fourth album and make sure that it’s a classic hip-hop album that people will never forget.”
The full interview will air on Saturday, June 10.
