Nicki Minaj is finally releasing a visual for her confident smash single “Chun Li,” and she released a fun teaser video in preparation.
In the two-minute clip Minaj unveiled on Thursday (April 26), the rapper battles dancer Aliya Janell—with choreography. The two high kick and take turns spitting lines of the track. They’re both decked in lace and patent leather, with space buns held together with chopsticks. At the end of the video, the two seemingly set aside their differences and become a girl power duo.
In an Instagram post shared after the teaser, Minaj explains that the actual music video will be completely different and that the clip was a last minute idea after a long day. “Ok, so here’s the story. When you click on the link in my bio, you’ll see me with my new baby @thealiyajanell who I saw dancing to itty bitty piggy one day & fell in love with her,” she wrote in the caption. ” Long story short, I hired her. The REAL #ChunLi video DOES NOT look like what you’ll see when you click the link!!!! But after 2 days of filming, around 5am when my whole team & crew were TIRED AF, I asked her to FREESTYLE with me & this is what happened.”
The “Barbie Tingz” rapper has yet to reveal a release date for the video, except for a vague “Coming Soon.” Watch the “Chun Li” teaser below.
