Twitter reports that 1 million tweets were posted in the 48-hour window after Minaj’s initial announcement. Thursday (April 13) saw not only the release of those singles — as well as her collaboration with Young Thug, “Anybody,” and its corresponding video — but #NickiDay as a trending topic at the top of the list.
The unicorn emoji flooded any given Twitter feed as well, as #NickiDay took over to celebrate the drop of Minaj’s first new solo singles in 2018. (Her collaboration with Migos and Cardi B, “MotorSport,” hit earlier this year.)
Minaj’s revealing interview with Beats 1 definitely didn’t slow down the building buzz, either: In her candid conversation with Zane Lowe that went live shortly before “Chun Li,” “Barbie Tingz” and “Anybody” hit playlists around the world, she touched on her “MotorSport” verse, her relationship with Cardi B, the Drake vs. Meek Mill beef she found herself in the middle of and more.
She also revealed that she’s filming a documentary about the making of her next album, so who knows: If this million tweet mark is any indication, it’s that we’ll be talking about — and tweeting about — Minaj and the new music she’s set to drop quite a bit in the coming months.
