In case you missed it, Missy Elliott was posted up in the studio this weekend alongside longtime running mate and Grammy-winning producer Timbaland. Elliott took to social media on Saturday night to let fans know she’s hard at work on new music with her Supa Dupa Fly collaborator.
“Me & Timbaland last night in [the studio] cooking,” the 47-year-old wrote with a coinciding video clip in the midst of a recording session between the iconic duo. The “Work It” rapper continues to send smoke signals that she will indeed make her return with an album in 2019, which would serve as Missy’s first official LP since 2005’s The Cookbook.
Back in October, Elliott admitted she had been hesitant to put out music in recent times because she felt her sound didn’t fit in with the current landscape of music. “For so long I was hesitant to put out music in fear no 1 would get it because people said music has changed & my sound been so different but NOW IM LIKE hey bump it make music that feels good to me. Let me Get y’all asses dancing again,” the Virginia native candidly penned wrote Oct. 1.
Just last week, the “Get Ur Freak On” artist became the first female rapper to be nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Elliott will be just the third MC to take on the prestigious honor, following in the footsteps of JAY-Z and Jermaine Dupri.
Be on the lookout for some fresh sounds from Missy Elliott early in the new year. For now, check out her teaser in the studio with Timbaland below.
