NYC rapper MIKE burst onto the hip-hop scene in 2017 with his rugged 16-track mixtape May God Bless Your Hustle. Pulling inspiration from the acclaimed MF Doom, the 19-year-old crafted a unique sonic on the burgeoning underground circuit, which is gaining more recognition every day. The sLUms crew member unleashed his raw “Time Ain’t Enough” video on Friday (April 27).
The 10k Productions-directed video sets the stage for MIKE’s upcoming project Black Soap. The clip opens with MIKE and good friend Darryl Johnson playing the role of soap salesmen, narrating realizations of what a day in the monotonous life of a salesman is actually like. Instrumentation is handled by Brooklyn jazz duo Standing On the Corner, who mesh with MIKE’s minimalist bars in a flawless manner.
The artist born Micheal Bonema gets lost inside the depths of his own mind. “I be in here sweating/ With my hands caressing mics because I keep forgetting/ There’s some thoughts I get at night that I just need to question,” he introspectively rhymes.
If you’re looking for some eccentric bubbling talent out of New York, MIKE is worth your time. The “God’s With Me” rapper appeared on Billboard’s top 10 hip-hop and R&B artists to watch list for 2018.
