Mike Shinoda and K.Flay poured their hearts out in a vibrant performance of “Make It Up As I Go” on Thursday’s (Nov. 1) episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Delivering a chemistry-filled duet, the singers complemented each other as they performed their genre-bending hit on a colorful, collage-filled stage.
With his notorious punchy delivery and bullet-quick flow, Shinoda showed off his vocal gymnastics as he rhymed the heartfelt lyrics, “I didn’t have the patience left to explain/ Didn’t wanna wait while nobody came/ I know the path ahead’s uneven/ But while I’m breathing/ I have to make my own lane.”
In a candid mix of rapping and singing, Shinoda’s masterful wordplay contrasted with Flay’s sweet, raspy voice as both opened up about loneliness, trauma and self-awareness while rocking matching “Vote” shirts.
“Make It Up As I Go” is featured on Shinoda’s new album Post Traumatic?, which pays homage to former band mate Chester Bennington.
