Miguel has apologized for his DUI conviction last year after appearing in court last week, NME reports.
The singer was arrested last August in Los Angeles for driving under the influence. He reportedly failed multiple sobriety tests, his breathalyzer readings a .10 and .11 — over the .08 legal limit.
In court, the artist — born Miguel Pimentel — pled no contest to the charges and was sentenced to informal probation for three years, plus an alcohol education class and a $360 fine.
“Driving with alcohol in my system was reckless,” Miguel said in a statement after his sentencing. “I’m really sorry and I’m taking responsibility for this mistake.”
Miguel is currently at work on his third album — “I have a very clear vision, and I have a very clear goal,” he told Billboard last week. His sophomore release, “Kaleidoscope Dream,” hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2012 and included the Best R&B Song at the 2013 GRAMMYs in “Adorn.”
