It’s never easy to get over a relationship, and public break-ups make it even harder. But on his latest single “The Break Up,” Ohio rapper Machine Gun Kelly shows us one triumphant way to get past your ex after a bad ending.
On this bass-heavy record highlighted by a looming synth melody and rapid hi-hats, MGK — over hints of autotune — coolly expresses that he’s through with a bad thing relationship, and he’s moving all the way on. “I wish that I loved you, or that I cared. Or that I even gave a damn if you were here,” he sings before pointedly rapping about all the things he doesn’t want his former boo to do now that they’re through.
“The Break Up” is the latest in a heap of music released by MGK in the calendar year. Along with his spring time release Bloom, The Bad Boy rapper also reached #4 on the Hot 100 with the Camila Cabello assisted single “Bad Things” at the top of 2017.
