Yo Gotti paid tribute to his manager, Mel Carter, who died on Friday (Nov. 25), by praising Carter’s dedication to Gotti’s visions and dreams. Carter, who also ran Gotti’s CMG label, was instrumental in fostering the careers of a number of hip-hop stars, including Kanye West, T.I. and 2 Chainz as well. At press time there was no information on the cause of death or Carter’s age, but a number of his former clients and proteges posted kind words about their mentor.
In an Instagram posted over the weekend, Gotti wrote, “You helped me! You Dedicated Ur Life To My Vision, To My DREAM, You Finally Got Me To Leave To Country & Go To UK, Dubai To See Da World, We Made Millions In Such A Short Time!” he wrote. “They Told Us We Needed A Big Feature To Get A No.1 Record , They Told Us We Will Never Do Shows In Vegas Cause I Was Too Gangsta .. We Luv To Hear Them Say What We Couldn’t Do, So We Went Got Our 1st No.1 RECORD #Solo — We Went Got A Residency In VEGAS — We signed Artist They Asked us Y We Sign Them..”
Tributes came in from a number of other rappers as well:
