It’s no secret that Megan Thee Stallion is a huge fan of anime, especially the series My Hero Academia. The 24-year-old Houston rapper has even recreated the look of MHA character Shoto Todoroki by wearing a red-and-white wig and blue jumpsuit for several of her photo shoots.
So when San Francisco-based anime streaming platform Crunchyroll commissioned an illustration of her self-described “Todoroki Tina” look, Megan couldn’t help but share the impressive drawing with her fans.
“Shoutout to my friends @crunchyroll for bringing Todoroki Tina to life,” the rapper captioned the Todoroki Tina drawing on her social media accounts.
A spokesperson for Crunchyroll tells Billboard that the streaming company knew Megan has a fan of anime — My Hero Academia in particular — and wanted to do something special for her. So the company tapped artist Rebecca Ryan to create an illustration of Todoroki Tina based on past photos, including the August cover of Paper Magazine.
“We’re finding that more and more celebrities and athletes are professing their love for anime, and it’s been great to see such prominent artists showing off pieces of art inspired by their favorite series,” the Crunchyroll spokesperson tells Billboard.
The spokesperson also notes that Crunchyroll commissioned an illustration for rapper Saweetie, who is a big fan of the iconic anime series Sailor Moon. Saweetie shared the drawing on Instagram in early November.
“Thank you @crunchyroll for my customized anime character ^_^ & premium subscription!!! I loooove it !!!!! What should we name herrrr??”
Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion was recently honored with the Powerhouse Award at the 2019 Billboard Women In Music. In 2019, Megan notched a bevy of Hot 100 singles with “Big Ole Freak,” “Cash Sh-t” and her scorcher “Hot Girl Summer” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Nicki Minaj.
