The U.S. women’s soccer team had a lot to celebrate on Sunday night (July 7) after beating the Netherlands 2-0 for their record-breaking fourth World Cup title.
After hoisting the trophy, as well as the coveted Golden Boot scoring award for the most goals scored and Golden Ball, outspoken team co-captain Megan Rapinoe made the most of her moment, celebrating the team’s back-to-back Cup victories by quoting the 2018 Nipsey Hussle track “Hussle and Motivate” in an Instagram post.
“Ain’t really trip on the credit, I just paid all of my dues/ I just respected the game, now my name all in the news/Trippin’ on all of my moves, quote me on this, got a lot more to prove.” she wrote, tagging Hussle in the pic (as well as his motto “The Marathon Continues”) in which she displayed her hardware with a broad smile.
Rapinoe also made headlines during the U.S. women’s dramatic run to unprecedented back-to-back victories on the soccer world’s biggest stage, including noting that she didn’t intend to go to “the fucking White House,” inciting her latest war of words with Pres. Trump.
Meanwhile, her joyous teammates celebrated with their own hip-hop nod, dancing with abandon in the locker room to the Migos‘ 2014 anthem “Fight Night.”
