This week has been quite eventful for Kanye West. Amid all the controversy eclipsing his recent return to the public eye, a heap of Kanye’s hip-hop peers has opened up about Ye’s latest antics, including Meek Mill, who took to Instagram on Tuesday (May 1) to remember the “Old Kanye.”
“To whom much is giving much is tested …. get arrested I guess until he get the message.. I feel the pressure under more scrutiny and what I do ‘act more stupidly,'” Meek wrote on Instagram, referencing the 2007 hit “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” Meek posted an image of a fake memorial of Kanye –created by New Jersey-based art collective SuperPoorKids — with the dates “2.10.04” — the day Ye released his debut album College Dropout — and “9.11.07,” referencing the rapper’s Graduation album release date, inscribed on each side of Kanye’s photo.
Meek ended the post with the hashtags, “#oldye” and “#wemissyoubro,” and revealed “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” was especially inspiring to him while he was in prison. Meek was released from prison on April 24 after being held behind bars for five months.
“Although I’m blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues,” he said the day of his release. “In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”
Kanye’s rant at TMZ Live on Tuesday was the talk of the town, as the rapper revealed he was addicted to opioids and had liposuction at one point.
“I was drugged the fuck out, bro, I was drugged out. I was on opioids. Two days after I got off of opioids — I was addicted to opioids — I’m in the hospital,” he said to the newsroom.
