Philadelphia Eagles fans are riding high on the team’s conference championship win last night (Jan. 21), which will take the Birds to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2005, and only the third time in franchise history.
Before the game, the team took to the field to Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares,” and the hype was real. As John Clark, sports anchor for NBC Sports’ Philadelphia affiliate, explained, the song was played at a team meeting leading up to the game.

When Mill was sentenced in November to two to four years in prison for violating his parole, fans began calling it a “sacrifice” needed in order for the Eagles to have a good season. After last night’s win over the Minnesota Vikings, the theory was revived.

Now, some are calling for Mill’s release, even if only for the night of the big game, because he has played such an influential role for the Eagles this season.

Unlikely that fans will get their wish, but Philadelphians can celebrate the fact that their team has defied the odds this year, and did it while being inspired by an anthem from one of Philly’s own.
