With the new school year approaching, Meek Mill appears to be in a giving mood. According to a press release, Meek donated over 6,000 backpacks to students in his hometown of Philadelphia early Wednesday morning (Aug. 29).
Not only were students gifted backpacks, but they also were given new school supplies. PUMA, Fanatics and Milano Di Rouge joined Meek’s back-to-school initiative and provided supplies to schools across 12 SDP public schools including James G. Blaine, Strawberry Mansion, Richard R. Wright Elementary School, Edward Gideon School, Thomas Edison High School, William Dick School, Randolph, Technical High School, William D Kelley School, Jules E. Mastbaum High School, The LINC High School, Benjamin Franklin High School and The U School.
“Growing up in Philly, I’ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for the kids,” Meek said. “Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right now with the right supplies.” To make his contribution a noteworthy one, Meek visited two of the public schools, most notably his alma mater, James G. Blaine Elementary school.
“We are excited that so many of students will have brand new backpacks and school supplies for this school year, and we are grateful to Meek Mill and the Dream Chasers for giving back to the community,” said SDP superintendent Dr. William R. Hite.
