Maxwell dropped a treat for classic R&B fans on Friday (March 29): the first of five rare EPs celebrating the hits that launched his career in the early ‘90s.
The first EP features multiple versions of his songs “…Til the Cops Come Knockin’” and “The Urban Theme,” both from the singer’s seminal 1996 debut album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite. The rest of the EPs will be released weekly for the next month, and include “Sumthin’ Sumthin’,” “Whenever, Wherever, Whatever,” “Suitelady (The Proposal Jam)” and more.
Each EP in the set will comprise of remixes, radio edits, dubs, B-sides, instrumentals and MTV Unplugged Live versions of the Maxwell slow jams that shaped the sound of modern R&B.
Additionally, the star unveiled a five-track remix EP of his latest single, “Shame” to coincide with the announcement, available now via Columbia Records.
