The spacious Boardwalk Hall of Atlantic City, New Jersey, held its 10th annual Mother’s Day Festival over the weekend. Saturday night headliners included R&B star Maxwell, the Empress of Soul Gladys Knight, and singer-songwriter Vivian Green hitting the stage for an epic night dedicated to mothers across the globe.
The Brooklyn native gave an epic rendition of his Grammy-nominated hit “Fortunate.” Maxwell shared a special moment with a woman sitting front row, as he gazed into her eyes while holding hands throughout the kindhearted performance. Gladys Knight later joined him onstage to follow up with 1973’s “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me,” bringing back some serious nostalgia. She went on to speak directly to the mothers in attendance but kept the mood light when she joked about not being proficient with social media.
Vivian Green reconnected with Maxwell to open the festival with a performance of her recently released single “Vibes,” which became the most added song on the Urban Adult Contemporary charts. What was originally meant as a one-off event has blossomed into a successful May staple with plans to keep growing.
The festival culminated hosting 2,500 attendees for a Sunday (May 13) brunch that featured a show filled with classic groups such as The Whispers, The Dramatics and The Intruders, inside the popular Bally’s Hotel.
