New Yorkers can mark their calendars for Aug. 11 — that’s when R&B vocalist Maxwell will kick off his inaugural Black Summer Night For Social Justice event. The purpose of the concert is to spark action regarding civil rights issues, both locally and nationally and New York City native Maxwell will be bringing some friends along for the mini-festival at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium.
Maxwell’s will be headlining Black Summer Night alongside a roster that includes American Idol winner Fantasia, slow-jammers DVSN and R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan. A portion of profits from the concert will benefit the Me Too movement as well as the Southern Poverty Law Center. More artists and organizations are expected to be announced soon.
Ticket sales begin Saturday (Apr. 21) at 10 a.m. ET, and can be purchased here.
