Even through heartache, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige continues to reign. For the crisp visual for her resilient heartbreak anthem “Thick Of It,” MJB slays in a variety of white, black and gold ensembles — including a New York Yankees fitted cap to salute her Bronx roots — while showing off her signature dance moves in a shimmering bronze room.
“Thick Of It,” penned by powerhouse vocalist Jazmine Sullivan, recently became Blige’s fifth No. 1 on the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart (dated Nov. 12), which shot to the top spot within four weeks — the fastest climb to No. 1 in over 20 years, since Whitney Houston‘s 1995 offering “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” off the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack.
The R&B icon recently filed for divorce from her husband and ex-manager, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, perhaps making for inspired content on her forthcoming album Strength of a Woman, due later this year. She is also currently touring alongside Maxwell on the King and Queen of Hearts World Tour, headed next to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on Nov. 9.
