On Tuesday (May 9), Grammy-nominated artist Mali Music announced the release of his next album, The Transition of Mali, out on June 2 via Bystorm Entertainment/RCA Records. Coming off the success of his 2014 breakthrough album Mali Is…, this project will explore the revolution of the artist expanding outside his traditional sound while maintaining his R&B core.
Recently, Mali released the Salaam Remi-produced track “Gonna Be Alright,” the lead single from the project. An inspirational and upbeat mood permeates the record, drawing the listener into Mali’s melodic wave of motivation. In the song Mali sings, “I’ve got a song to sing/ It’s a song about hope for you.”
In a recent interview with Billboard, Mali divulged the significance of the song. “Everybody’s doing music, but if you want to do music for real, it has to be something special,” he said. “And I think that every single song on this album is that.” He concludes by stating, “I’m grateful to be in this collage, this attempt to resurrect or restore creative, clean, beautiful art.”
Starting Friday, the album will be available for pre-order. Mali has upcoming shows on Thursday in Oakland, California, and Friday in Los Angeles. Tickets can be purchased here.
