As his debut single “Why I Love You” nestles in the top 15 after peaking at No. 12 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs chart, rising singer/songwriter MAJOR. is busy putting his stamp on the holiday season with today’s premiere of “Spend Christmas With You.” The original composition, which MAJOR. describes as “’Why I Love You 10.0,” is available at iTunes. With its spare, slow groove, “Spend Christmas With You” elegantly showcases what’s been drawing fans to the MAJOR. front since the May release of “Why I Love You”: He’s a passionate storyteller armed with a smooth soulful tenor and soaring falsetto. Not only has “Why” quickly become a wedding favorite for comedian Kevin Hart and others over the last six months, its video has racked up more than 4 million views on YouTube.
And no less a fan than Patti LaBelle has co-signed the heart-tugging song, performing it during one of her recent shows. Adds MAJOR., “To know I’m being covered by a legend is pretty epic.”

“Wedding or proposal song, anniversary song, lullaby, even about getting over the loss of someone … I’ve gotten comments from both women and men,” says the Los Angeles-based MAJOR. (born Major Johnson Finley). “Some men have even said, ‘Man, you gave me the words to say, because I missed up real big.’ And all the reactions have also been cross-cultural. That’s just what love is; it doesn’t have a color code.”

“Why I Love You” is featured on MAJOR.’s debut album, I Am MAJOR. It was released in July via BOE. Music Group and Empire, the latter of which counts recent hits by D.R.A.M. (“Broccoli”) and Fat Joe & Remy Ma (“All the Way Up”) to its name. In addition to “Why I Love You,” produced by Harmony Samuels (Ariana Grande, Fantasia), MAJOR.’s diverse 12-track set also includes the anthem “#ChangeRightNow,” featuring Glee’s Amber Riley, as well as tracks featuring Kevin McCall and Mali Music. The singer is already at work on another album, collaborating with Samuels again, as well as Sting’s son Joe Sumner.
Fans can watch MAJOR. perform “Why I Love You” on the 2016 Soul Train Awards, which premieres Nov. 27 on Centric and BET. The performance marks his national television debut.
