There are moments in your life when you have to just pause and take it all in. This is one of those moments for Machine Gun Kelly. The rapper took time out of his Sunday evening (Oct. 4) to celebrate a milestone he’s been looking forward to for half his life. “Waited my entire career to repost this,” MGK, 30, wrote in a retweet of the official Billboard announcement that his Tickets to My Downfall album had earned him his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
The rapper’s album, released on Sept. 25 via EST19XX/Bad Boy/Interscope, earned 126,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 1, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. MGK has described the new album as “pop-punk,” and it was largely produced and written with Travis Barker of rock band Blink-182. Tickets is the first rock album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in over a year. The last rock set to top the tally was Tool’s Fear Inoculum, which bowed at No. 1 on the Sept. 14, 2019-dated list and spent one week in the lead.
He followed with another celebratory post, in which he wrote, “The journey is a marathon, but this week was a race… I owe the fans everything for pushing so hard, but you did it!! Let’s celebrate now and again when touring opens up.”
Tickets also debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart, MGK’s firs entry on that list.
