Lupe Fiasco released the BEAT N’ PATH docu-series, which recaps his journey of discovery across China over the past few years, on Monday (July 1). The nine-part series explores the Chicago native’s deep-rooted connection to Kung Fu and is available exclusively through Lupe’s website.
“Before the music, it was all about the martial arts,” Fiasco says at the start of episode one. “I trained in the martial arts with my father since I was about three years old and it’s always been a passion of mine. Little hints of it pop up here and there in my music, but for the most part, my fans never really saw my martial arts side. They only know me for being a musician and a rapper. Hopefully this show will introduce people to that side of me.”
To go along with the series, the 37-year-old also released a new track and visual on the music side titled, “Air China.” The clip finds Lupe boarding the private jet on his way to China. “Look around, look around, everybody’s on they phone/ There’s a room full of people, but everybody’s alone,” he raps.
