Lupe Fiasco had a lot to say when it came to Kendrick Lamar over the weekend. He began on Friday (Jan. 5) by accusing K. Dot of biting his Drogas Light album artwork, point out the similarities in the Compton native’s recently released “All the Stars” song for the Black Panthers movie soundtrack.
The Chitown artist wrote, “Even I admit this is a little too close for comfort… damn now I guess I need a new album cover… Thanks @theblackpanther.”
Just minutes later Lupe sent out a follow-up tweet regarding Kendrick, “‘No matter how far you go…you will reflect me.’ All black album covers, Backwards albums, Ninja! Now this…. I’m getting suspiciously delicious hahahha.” Soon after, TDE President Dave Free decided to fire back and address the situation on Twitter, writing, “@LupeFiasco go kick & push yourself into a tree with these wild allegations.”
Saturday (Jan. 6), the Food & Liquor artist had some more time to address fan tweets, and once again Kung Fu Kenny became a topic of conversation. Back in 2014, The Chicago native offered that King Los and Logic were both better lyricists than the TDE artist. Someone wanted to see if Lupe still had similar feelings with Kendrick dropping multiple projects in the time since.
Fiasco complimented the Compton rapper, but was still critical of Lamar’s lyrical ability in a since-deleted tweet: “I’ll put it to you like this. K. Dot is not a top tier lyricist to me and my standards when it comes to punchlines and bars. His overall lyrics are good, his stories phenomenal, but punchline entendre lyrically I don’t see it.”
Angry Kendrick fans flooded Lupe’s mentions, with one boldly claiming, “‘Look out for Detox’ destroys any Lupe track. I like Lupe a lot but it’s not close in my opinion.” The 35-year-old quickly discredited that opinion by tweeting back, “I’ve never been destroyed. Also the only issue that the world thinks I have with K. Dot and I actually do is that I think his ‘Control’ verse was wack and super over hyped to be a verse claiming you are the best rapper. It was very weird. I was told it was just bait, but still.”
Will Kendrick address Lupe’s claims on upcoming tracks?
Oh, wow. Lupe Fiasco implying someone else “overrated” is ironic. In any case, I agree with him: Kendrick Lamar is probably the most overrated rapper in the history of rap, even moreso than Eminem. And “Control” was try-hard and gained traction only because of the name dropping. pic.twitter.com/iY4I9O0mjy
