Lupe Fiasco just released a video for “Remission,” a remix of a song he recorded for the non-profit organization Stand Up To Cancer back in May. The remix includes contributions from Common and Jennifer Hudson, two other artists from Chicago.
The original song, just titled “Mission,” started with monologues from cancer survivors — including one from R&B singer Charlie Wilson, formerly of the Gap Band.
This video, which shows Fiasco, Common and Hudson in the studio, no longer features the testimonials of the survivors. In the latest version, Hudson sings the chorus while Common adds a verse about his own father’s battle against cancer. You can buy the new song on iTunes starting Sept. 5.
Fiasco’s fifth studio album, Tetsuo & Youth, is scheduled for release this year. In addition to “Remission,” Fiasco released “Old School Love” with Ed Sheeran and “Next To It,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, both of which are expected to be on his next album. Hudson plans to release her own album, JHUD, on Sept. 23.
