While he continues to adjust to life in the Big Easy as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans, Lonzo Ball has carved out some time this offseason to cater to his second career moonlighting as an emerging rapper. Zo returns Friday (July 19) with a new track and Evan Croker-directed visual, which finds Ball connecting with close friend Kenneth Paige for “Doin Somethin,” and premieres with Billboard below.
The duo take a boat ride along the serene coast of Miami, as the former Lakers guard handles chorus duties sandwiched between Paige’s Lloyd-esque crooning. Ball puts his stamp on the track with a slam dunk of a verse, where he addresses being a father and overcoming the baby momma drama that has come along with it. “You looking at a father, do it for my daughter/ I’m working with her momma I ain’t with the drama/ If you got a problem, just address it baby we could solve it,” he raps over Brody Brown production.
“Zo and I are like brothers,” KP relays to Billboard. “We have great chemistry collaborating with music. It’s been fun going down this music journey together. He’s really talented and skilled with his pen. Definitely has a vision and sound for what he’s going for.”
As far as the hardwood goes, Ball looks for a fresh start in his third season after being traded earlier in July as part of the mega-deal that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Look for an EP from Paige in September. For now, watch the “Doin Somethin” video below.
