Lin-Manuel Miranda has been on a winning streak since the opening of his Broadway smash, Hamilton. With a highly touted mixtape set to drop next month for his acclaimed musical, Miranda is making the press runs, and recently stopped by the WTF podcast to not only speak on the success of Hamilton, but also discuss the time he was stuffed in a trash can by Immortal Technique in high school.

“He was our school bully,” said Miranda during the podcast. “He terrorized kids, he threw them in the garbage. I got thrown in the garbage by him.” Before his days as a full-time rapper, Immortal Technique dabbled in theater back in high school, along with Miranda. “He got a part senior year [in the school play] and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in a f–king play with the dude that scares the shit out of all my friends,” he added.
Instead of delving into Broadway, Immortal Technique went on to become a socially conscious rapper, who has dug into various subjects including government, religion and race throughout his career. Miranda applauded Technique’s longevity.
“He’s one of the most political, ideological [MCs]. He really made an incredible life for himself as a rapper,” praised Miranda. “He was a really angry kid and it’s been wonderful to watch him grow up and find a political outlet for that anger.”
