Rapper Lil Skies stopped by the Billboard office to chat about what and who his songs are inspired by, why people should listen to his music and much more as part of the “You Should Know” video series.
Speaking about his music, the Pennsylvania-based rapper says that he is motivated by, well, life. “I feel like a lot of people can relate to my music,” he explains. “A lot of people can tell that the shit that I’m going through is real and I feel like the biggest influence and I feel like the biggest inspiration is knowing that I’m inspiring them, too, while I’m still achieving my dreams.”
Asked why people should listen to his tracks, the “Nowadays” rapper says, “Because it’s lit. It’s gonna make you feel good and you gonna be able to relate to it.” As for his biggest musical inspirations, Lil Skies names Lil Wayne, Travis Scott and 50 Cent.
The 19-year-old also reveals that growing up, his dream job was “to be like Bear Grylls on Man vs. Wild” and that the skill he would love to one day master is tattooing.
