A three-song EP promised by Lil Peep before his shocking death in 2017 was released on Thursday (Oct. 31), two years after it was originally announced. The drop of the Goth Angel Sinner project comes on what a press release says was the emo rapper’s “favorite holiday,” Halloween. The Fish Narc-produced project comes with a morose video directed by Peep and Rayn for the darkly churning track “When I Lie,” which features Peep, bathed in red light, sitting at a table smoking a cigarette and drinking.
“Stick that needle in my eye, just lost my piece of mind/ I’m not evil by design, but I feel dead at times/ Stick that needle in my eye, just lost my piece of mind/ Stick that needle in my eye,” he raps over a spare beat. Frequent collaborator Ryan said that he and the rapper shot the “Lie” video during the Come Over When You’re Sober Tour in Hamburg, Germany, while getting ready for a show.
“It was a spur of the moment video,” said Rayn. “As soon as someone from the venue led us down to the green room, Peep and I looked at each other and said we have to shoot a video here. It didn’t take long to decide what track to shoot as he had been playing ‘When I Lie’ on repeat most of the journey there. We decided to shoot a one take video as we had shot ‘4 gold chains’ as a one take in London and loved the way it came out.” A remix of “When I Lie” with Ty Dolla $ign was featured on the For The Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones earlier this year.
The EP also features the urgent “Moving On” and guitar-splashed “Belgium,” both of which have previously surfaced online. A documentary about Peep (born Gustav Ahr) — who died in Nov. 2017 at 21 due to an overdose of Xanax and fentanyl while on tour — called Everybody’s Everything, is slated for release in November.
