Since 2010, Lil B teased fans with the possible release of his Black Ken mixtape. After six years of holding his project hostage, the Bay Area artist may be releasing the long overdue project.
On Tuesday (Dec. 20), the self-proclaimed Based God shared that his Black Ken mixtape would be “coming soon,” and revealed that the inspiration behind the project was Puff Daddy.
“Lil b black Ken mixtape a dedication to puff daddy coming soon – Lil B,” he wrote on Twitter.
Last month, Lil B (real name Brandon McCartney) revisited the idea of dropping his Black Ken mixtape when he found himself “crying” while replaying the tracks from the six-year-old project. “Il b fina change the world wow I been crying listening to new songs from Lil B unreleased extremely rare art black Ken mixtape – Lil B,” he said.
Martin Shkreli — pharmaceutical executive and owner of Wu-Tang’s $2 million dollar secret album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin — offered his support, asking the rapper where he can purchase his mixtape. Lil B responded, “Wasup legend I respect ur love for art and music we talk more soon what I have on my hands is the THE future – Lil B.”
