On Friday (Jan. 19), California upstart Leven Kali delivered a mellow earworm titled “Do U Wrong,” featuring Syd. The two singers comb through the slow-burning track with their unruffled vocals, pledging allegiance to their respective loved ones.
“You don’t gotta trip, we can vacation/ Take you all around the world, I can give you paper planes,” The Internet standout sings. Kali ups the ante with smooth lines of his own for his counterpart, singing, “I could do you wrong if you want, babe/ Would that keep me in your mind long enough, baby.”
In regards to the creation of the song, Kali told Pigeons & Planes that the record almost didn’t come into existence. “It’s a long story,” he said. “This song died, came back to life, and stopped smoking Backwoods. Thank you for listening.” Kali’s name might ring bells for avid Playboi Carti fans, as he appeared on his song “Flex” last year.
