Rapper and singer Bryce Vine made his television debut on Monday night (Aug. 6) on Late Night with Seth Meyers with a killer performance of his 2017 single “Drew Barrymore.”
Vine began his set with his signature smooth and smoky vocals, singing about the iconic actress as an extended metaphor about his dream woman. The singer’s voice dripped with emotional honesty and tenderness on every verse and hook before giving in to the infectious combination of dynamic drums and synth beats on the chorus “‘Cause you’re the next Drew Barry/ And I want more, yeah, And all these other girls keep wonderin’ what I fuck with you for/’Cause you’re the next Drew Barry, yeah.” The song has racked up more than 22 million streams on Spotify and 80 million streams overall so far since its release in November.
As soon as Vine started to sing the bridge, his soulful voice was met with a wall of amped up and driving drum beats that brought the song to its peak before dropping back down into a relaxed and intimate final chorus. Vine is currently preparing to go on tour with MAX, appearing on select U.S. dates this fall.
