San Francisco-based rapper Larry June teamed up with fellow Bay Area hip-hop artist G-Eazy for his new single “3rd Girl,” and Billboard has the exclusive first listen.
June offers up an R&B vibe in “3rd Girl” with production by Cookin Soul. The single is the second to come off June’s Orange Season project. The collaboration with G-Eazy comes after the two “Bay Area Bosses” long friendship.
“G-Eazy and I have been talking for a while about doing a song. We’ve been knowing each other since MySpace when I was 15-16 years old, around 2006,” said June. “With the Cookin Soul production, it’s different from the tapes I put out last year. I started off making more chill music and I kinda wanted to bring that back to the table for people who didn’t know I make that kinda music too.”
The Orange Season project is set to release via a free SoundCloud download later this week. June’s aim with the music project is to further promote his healthy lifestyle, while still appealing to his established rap audience.
“With the health sh*t, I’m just tryna shine light on what needs to be shined. I’m promoting the lifestyle, but my music still sounds the same,” said June. “I’m still talking sh*t. Some people probably hate my music but love the lifestyle. It’s up to us as artists to really make a difference, but it’s hard to make a difference making conscious music that kids aren’t gonna give a f*ck about. It’s all about the lifestyle.”
Larry June recently finished an East Coast tour with Cousin Stizz and has been featured on Stizz’s “Down Like That” and Post Malone’s “Never Understand”.
