After delivering an electronically enchanting score for HBO’s teen drama Euphoria, UK multihyphenate Labrinth gets to explore his own dreamworld with his forthcoming solo album Imagination & the Misfit Kid, which is due for release Nov. 22. He allows listeners to step into his ultra-creative compilation by releasing “Where the Wild Things” as a single today (Oct. 31).
On the heels of the lifting “God Is” ballad from Kanye West‘s first-ever gospel record Jesus Is King which he co-wrote and -produced, Labrinth delivers his own soaring vocals during the pre-chorus, “We float on air / So high off the ground / We float on air” and never lands after arriving at a heavenly debaucherous gathering. His valiant toast, “Put your f—ing glasses up” chimes to the tune of an electric flute.
Imagination & the Misfit Kid follows Labrinth on multiple gravity-defying quests garnished by instruments, including “Miracle” — a semi-autobiographical lo-fi tale about turning one’s imagination into a business — “All For Us” with Zendaya off of the Euphoria soundtrack, “Something’s Got To Give” and “Mount Everest.”
