With his debut album Light of Mine just right around the corner, KYLE is releasing a barrage of material to keep his loyalists fed until the May 18 release date. After dropping his lighthearted visual for “Playinwithme” featuring Kehlani earlier this week, the California upstart is back with his latest collaboration, “Ikuyo” with Sophie Black and 2 Chainz.
“Ikuyo” — which roughly translates to “here we go” in Japanese — finds the 24-year-old playfully making comparisons to NFL running back Marshawn Lynch and namedropping Oprah. “Now I’m on the big screen (huh), used to eat at Wendy’s (yeah)/ Got rich overnight, it’s like I married Mrs. Winfrey (Woah),” he raps over the airy soundscape.” After Black delivers the track’s catchy hook in Japanese, 2 Chainz pounces on the track with vigor.
“Draymond with the lockdown (yeah)/ Look at my baby pictures, had an AR in the background,” Chainz buoyantly raps. Light of Mine‘s May 18 release date is also KYLE’s 25th birthday. The album will have features from Khalid, Kehlani, Alessia Cara, and more.
