Kanye West was a noted Kobe Bryant fan. The duo connected on multiple occasions, and Ye was even in the building for Kobe’s last game ever back in 2016. With society in mourning following Bryant and his daughter’s shocking deaths, West hosted a post-Grammys Sunday Service at midnight in Burbank Calif. early Monday (Jan. 27) to begin the healing process.
Snippets from the Service have made their way onto social media. Kirk Franklin looked to be in attendance delivering a moving spoken word, while Chance The Rapper popped up to perform his verse on “Ultralight Beam.” Kanye even freestyled a tribute verse in honor of his fallen friend.
“Kobe, We love you brother,” West wrote in a post dedicated to Bryant. “We’re praying for your family and appreciate the life you’ve lived and all the inspiration you gave.” The accompanying photo was from a 2010 studio session where the Laker legend actually helped Kanye finish off his verse on the “Power (Remix).”
Kim Kardashian was also in attendance along with her sister Kourtney. “My heart is so heavy,” Kim K wrote on IG. “No one should ever experience what the families involved are going through. This has affected us all so much but I cannot begin to imagine what Vanessa is feeling losing her husband and her baby girl. I cry just thinking about it. I am praying for the Bryant family, the Altobelli family and the families of all who perished in this unthinkable tragedy. Rest In Peace Legend.”

#SundayService aka #midnightservice was amazing! Thank you @joecoblaze for the invite…. @kirkfranklin gave a awesome and encouraging word! @chancetherapper rapped his verse on #ultralightbeam with so much emotion and #Kanye free-styled a tribute verse to #kobebryant . Tonight was a great memorial to grieve and receive comfort for tragic events of today. @kanyesundayservices choir was so bomb ??–
We build Temples – It’s not a studio or a makeup line. It’s not a space or a place to work. It’s always been a bout a community of people who create change. Tonight we got together to sing, create love and remember those we lost. #kobe #gigi #sundayservice #kanyewest #chancetherapper
