A year after turning heads with her debut mixtape, “Love The Free,” Kitty Cash preps its sequel, “Love The Free II.”
The 24-year-old DJ has teamed up with another talented young woman, Top Dawg Entertainment singer/songwriter, SZA, for the sequel’s first single, “Moodring.”
Check out the first taste of “Love The Free II” below, premiered here on The Juice:
“I wrote ‘Moodring’ the night I opened for Coldplay. I hadn’t slept in two and half days due to anxiety,” SZA shares of the Felix Snow-produced cut. “After the show, I drank every bottle of champagne Chris Martin [and] the band gave us that night, with Thundercat and my band. Great fucking time.”
Besides SZA, the mixtape – due July 22 – will also feature Dev Hynes, Yuna, Rainy Milo, Empress Of, Bipolar Sunshine and more.
Kitty Cash plans to tap rising artists to also direct the visuals behind several “Love the Free II” songs.
“My goal for the series is to create a platform for artists to co-exist through the sounds of progressive R&B and hip-hop [while] crossing barriers of fashion, music, art, and culture,” Cash tells Billboard. “I hope that ‘Love The Free’ can be seen as an art hub for people to find real artists who aren’t afraid to try something new and be themselves; [it’s] something that is lost today with social media. I just want to continue to share amazing music by true artists.”
