Kanye West got a lot of flak for whipping out his phone and seemingly texting during the opening night of The Cher Show Broadway musical on Monday night (Dec. 3). After being called out by one of the lead actors in the show in real time on Twitter, ‘Ye apologized and on Tuesday night (Dec. 4) wife Kim Kardashian West offered an explanation for why the rapper committed the ultimate theater no-no.
“He felt like shit,” Kardashian West reportedly told E! News at her KKW Beauty pop-up shop on Tuesday. “He was actually taking notes because he loved the production so much.” The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star also noted that she didn’t encourage ‘Ye to respond to Jarrod Spector, who plays Cher’s ex-husband Sonny Bono in the show. Spector had tweeted, “Hey @KanyeWest so cool that you’re here at @TheCherShow! If you look up from your cell phone you’ll see we’re doing a show up here. It’s opening night. Kind of a big deal for us. Thanks so much.”
In his response, Kanye explained that, “the dynamics of Cher and Sonny’s relationship made Kim and I grab each other’s hand and sing ‘I got you babe’ please pardon my lack of etiquette. We have so much appreciation for the energy you guys put into making this master piece.” Kardashian West said her husband felt bad right away and told her, “Oh my God, I’m gonna tweet. I just need to apologize. There’s no excuses. It was rude and I need better etiquette.”
Kardashian West also raved about the show, tweeting on Tuesday morning, “The Cher Show was sooooo good! I learned so much about her that I didn’t know. She really opened up about her life and all of the actors were sooo good! You all have to check it when in NYC. We had the best time!”
