Khalid’s debut album American Teen recently went platinum without any features, placing him in a pool with artists like J. Cole and Ed Sheeran. To celebrate his latest feat, Khalid brought his American Teen standout cut “Young, Dumb & Broke” to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night (Oct. 24).
Under dark blue lights, Khalid pranced around the stage with the spotlight beaming down on him. Khalid’s honeyed vocals envelope around the slow-burning melody as he sings, “So you’re still thinking of me/ Just like I know you should/ I can not give you everything, you know I wish I could/ I’m so high at the moment/ I’m so caught up in this/ Yeah, we’re just young, dumb and broke/But we still got love to give.”
As the song reaches its climax, Khalid kicks his energy levels up a notch and dances freely as the band plays in the background.
The “Location” singer took to social media to share the news of earning his first Platinum plaque. “Earlier this year, I told myself that March 3rd was going to be the day that changed my life forever. 7 months later, American Teen is Platinum,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thank you guys so much for EVERYTHING! I love you guys! A debut album with NO features. LETS GOOOO.”
