Khalid is preparing to make his Saturday Night Live performance debut. The Grammy-nominated singer will join acclaimed actor Idris Elba on the March 9 episode of the show in the wind-up to the April release of his anticipated second full-length album.
Golden Glboe winner Elba will make his SNL hosting debut on the episode in advance of his upcoming Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie (March 15).
Khalid recently dropped the single “Talk,” produced by English electronic duo Disclosure. “This album is the culmination of all of the growth and experiences I have gathered over the past two remarkable years,” Khalid said in a statement about the as-yet-untitled album. “I have been in the studio pouring my soul and spirit to create a body of work that I hope speaks to each and every one of you.”
Khalid and Elba will visit SNL the week after country singer Thomas Rhett and host comedian John Mulaney take the stage on March 2. Rhett announced his debut on the show over the weekend, promising fans that he will be performing two new songs from his upcoming fourth studio album on the show. “Playing NEW MUSIC out 3/1 on @nbcsnl on 3/2 <— how is that sentence even real!?” he wrote on Instagram, where he shared a cute video of his daughter Willa Gray helping him announce the big news.
