A huge No. 1 album, 11 Grammy Award nominations, and a legion of fans (critics included) stretching the globe. It’s fair to say 2015 was an excellent year for Kendrick Lamar. The West Coast rapper’s 2016 has begun in the same fashion with a guest musical slot and interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Lamar gave an intense performance of Untitled 2, a track that didn’t appear on his hit album To Pimp a Butterfly and its unclear if and when it’ll be released. The hip-hopper also performed an “Untitled” track on The Colbert Report back in 2014, and it too has yet to see the light of day.
Kendrick Lamar on 11 Grammy Nominations: ‘I Want All of Them‘
“Untitled 2” instantly darted to No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart after its debut. The “sequel” repeats the success of the first “Untitled,” which also hit No. 1 in Dec. 2014.
The Recording Academy recognized the brilliance of Lamar’s sophomore studio album with nominations for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Rap Performance among a haul of 11 nods, one less than Michael Jackson’s nomination record.
