Mike WiLL Made-It wasn’t playing around when he said, “The soundtrack album game would never be the same after this.”
Last month (Oct. 9), the Ear Drummer Records CEO was tapped as the executive producer of Creed II’s soundtrack. Mike WiLL returned on Wednesday (Nov. 14) with the project’s second single, which boasts serious star power by reuniting Pharrell and Kendrick Lamar for “The Mantra.”
The Compton native injects himself into the second half of the tune, while subtly mentioning his “Hol’ Up” track from Section 80. “Take the safe and doctor pay ’em aimin’ ‘fore the case closed/ Operate and then meet the player move on then for escrow/ Hol’ up wait, since Section 8 that’s on my day to day though/ Man-Man don’t shake hand, he pop shit,” he raps.
The rest of the anticipated Creed II soundtrack arrives on Friday (Nov. 16). Mike WiLL Made-It has put together quite the list of mega-collaborations featuring guest appearances from J. Cole, Nas, Rick Ross, Rae Sremmurd, Kodak Black, Vince Staples, Ella Mai, and the return of Crime Mob.
K. Dot and Pharrell most recently teamed up for a pair of tracks that landed on N.E.R.D.‘s No One Ever Really Dies album last year.
